Wilfred H. "Bill" Heitritter died 12/21/2015 at age 65, after a long illness, surrounded by his family.

Bill was born in Sheldon, IA, and grew up in Des Moines, IA. He graduated from the University of Iowa where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, earning his B.B.A. (Accounting), M.A. and J.D. degrees after marrying the love of his life, Mitch. Following completion of his education, Bill served in the U. S. Army for four years in the JAG office and as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney while stationed at Fort Hood, TX.

Following the Army, Bill joined McGladrey (now RSM US) and became a tax partner at their office in Rockford, IL, was partner-in-charge of the San Bernardino and then Riverside office, served as head of national tax, and sat on the firm's board. A resident of Redlands for 35 years, Bill was a past president of San Bernardino Area Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Chamber's Board of Directors, and a founding member of San Bernardino Leadership. He served on the Corporate Board, Executive Committee, was Chairman of the Finance Committee, and Chairman of the Redlands Community Hospital Board over 15 years. He was a board member of Inland Empire Economic Partnership, on the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for California State University, San Bernardino; on the Board of Trustees of Kimberly-Shirk Association in Redlands; and on the board of the San Bernardino Symphony Association. He was also active at his church where he served as president of the Church Council and on the finance committee. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the California, Iowa and Illinois Societies of Certified Public Accountants, the Iowa State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.

Bill enjoyed model trains and World War II history, was a voracious reader, loved visiting a family home in rural Pennsylvania every summer, and enjoyed attending his children's sports games and bagpipe band competitions. He cheered on his Iowa Hawkeyes during football and basketball seasons, and also followed the New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs and Bears, and Dallas Cowboys since he was young. He enjoyed coaching youth baseball for 30 years, starting before his own children were born. He enjoyed having his children and grandchildren visit whenever they could.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He is survived by his wife Mitchell of 44 years, sons Wilfred Heitritter (Amanda) of Pasadena, CA, and Kestler Heitritter (Charlyn) of Beaumont, CA, daughters Samantha Penrod (Michael) of Irvine, CA, and Johanna Heitritter of Santa Rosa, CA, and nine grandsons (he got his baseball team), sister Marie Greninger of Tulsa, OK, and nephew Matthew Greninger of Mountain Home, AR.

A memorial service will be on Saturday, January 9, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 1207 W. Cypress, Redlands, CA 92373. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to First Lutheran Church in Redlands, Redlands Community Hospital Foundation, or the University of Iowa Foundation (for Bill Heitritter).
